Inauguration of a permanent exhibition of Portuguese painting and sculpture at the MNAA

At the end of 2013, the Galp Energia Foundation established a partnership protocol with the National Museum of Ancient Art (MNAA), to collaborate on a project to reinstall a permanent exhibition of Portuguese painting and sculpture.

The logistical work for the preparation of the exhibition took place during this period, as the Museum underwent the renovation and improvement of its entire third floor where the exhibition would be located. During this period, an extensive and meticulous conservation and restoration intervention was carried out, involving the 243 pieces that were to be showcased in the revamped Gallery of Portuguese Painting and Sculpture.

Thus, on July 14, 2016, the inauguration of the renovated 3rd Floor 3 of the MNAA (permanent exhibition of Portuguese Painting and Sculpture) took place with the presence of the President of the Republic, who led proceedings, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Culture. This exhibition has received the highest acclaim from critics, both national and, especially, internationally.

The MNAA is recognised, both nationally and internationally, as the preeminent Portuguese museum in the field of historical and artistic heritage either through its prestigious collection or the program of exhibitions it develops.
