Galp Energia Foundation renovates Laranjeiras Elementary School with Galp employees

With the help of 41 volunteers, all employees of Galp’s Lisbon Towers, the Multimedia and Science rooms of the Laranjeiras Basic School were properly equipped and other areas were repaired inside the school.

Belonging to the Laranjeiras Schools Grouping, the Laranjeiras Elementary School, which has a Pre- and Primary School, is located in the immediate vicinity of the Torres de Lisboa (Lisbon Towers), the headquarters of the Galp Energia Foundation.

This school’s biggest social and material deficiencies included a lack of furniture for the Multimedia Room and Library, namely the furniture needed for the Magalhães computers that were available, and hence a computer room was created that could accommodate several students at once, as well as a book archive, for student consultation.

The Science Room and the Laboratory were also devoid of furniture as well as specific educational elements for the teaching of the respective subjects and the main classroom corridor was rather rundown. On December 16, an initiative involving forty-one volunteers, all employees of Galp’s Lisbon Towers, divided into various teams, proceeded to rehabilitate the following spaces.

  • Four areas were targeted:
  • Multimedia Room and Library;
  • Science Room and Laboratory;
  • Access corridor, including stairs; and,
  • Outdoor paving.

In the end, the Laranjeiras Elementary School was equipped with multimedia and science rooms duly equipped for the appropriate teaching of primary school students; their main classroom corridor and staircase were repaired, and - as soon as the weather permits - an intervention outside the School to create spaces for educational and recreational activities and games is still foreseen. Within this action an interactive whiteboard for the science room, with a video projector and a PC and desktop for one of the classrooms, was also provided.
