The Energy of Alcântara

Galp and its Foundation have arrived in Alcântara. We set out to understand the context of this "new" neighbourhood of ours, to connect with its people, and to map the most relevant local social partners. Together, we began designing the projects that will bring our community engagement plan to life: the Energy of Alcântara.

The Energy of Alcântara

For us, the energy of Alcântara lies in its people. This is the story of some of them

Our work across our three strategic axes:
Access to energy, access to education, and reduction of inequalities

C

We promote collective self-consumption

We installed 185 solar panels at the Boa-Hora Futebol Clube complex, in what is our first collective self-consumption project with a social purpose.

The clean energy generated will meet almost half of the club's energy needs and may go on to supply several associations and social facilities, such as the Vida Autónoma Association, the Public Bathhouse, the Children's Cultural and Recreational Centre of Cruzeiro and Rio-Seco, the Parish Social Centre, and CRESCER.

E

We are energy partners

We are energy partners of the Food Bank and the Donated Goods Bank (ENTRAJUDA), based in Alcântara, providing fuel to power the operations of the 21 Food Banks across mainland Portugal and the islands.

E

We support education and inclusion

In partnership with Boa-Hora Futebol Clube, we support a mentoring programme that engages children and young people from Alcântara's schools in educational and sports activities during their free time, in a safe, healthy and enriching way.

These students are also invited to take part in workshops. The first featured singer Diogo Piçarra as a surprise guest.

V

We engage our volunteers

In 2023, we carried out around 20 volunteering initiatives in Alcântara, involving the energy of over 400 employees, a commitment we will continue to renew in the years to come.

S

We support our social partners

We support the social mission of our partners through volunteering initiatives as well as products and services. Donations of fuel and food hampers are prime examples of this.
